Artist Talk with Remy Jungerman

Artist Talk with Remy Jungerman

Find out more about Off the Grid? Then come to the Artist Talk at the Mondriaan House during the last weekend of this exhibition. On Saturday 11 October, from 2.30pm to around 4pm, Remy Jungerman will be at the Mondriaan House and will talk about his oeuvre and the works he made for this exhibition. He will also talk about his motivations and how he was partly inspired by Piet Mondrian as a visual artist.

Especially for Off the Grid manufactured Jungerman Three Rivers. This work shows Jungerman's long-running project to select water samples from the three rivers that connect his life and work: the Cottica River in Moengo (Suriname), where he was born, the Amstel in Amsterdam and the Hudson in New York, where he now lives and works. Three Rivers invites a broader reflection on the historical connection between New York, the Netherlands and Suriname stemming from the transatlantic slave trade and the huge impact this great movement of people and art traditions has had on art history.

In the space where the museum displays early works by Piet Mondrian, Jungerman honours his artistic "ancestor" with a sculpture entitled Posu YAW - also created especially for this exhibition. And this too has a special story and thought process attached to it, which only adds depth and charge to the artwork. During the Artist Talk, Jungerman, an enthusiastic and passionate storyteller, will elaborate on these backgrounds. The techniques used will also be discussed.

Do you want to be there on 11 October (from 2.30pm to around 4pm) ? Then order a ticket in advance. Admission is €3.50 (excluding museum admission).
