Tickets

Do I need to buy a ticket online in advance to visit the museum?
This is allowed, but not compulsory. If you purchase a ticket online, however, you are always guaranteed access at your convenience. Order your ticket(s) via the ticket shop.

Please note: Despite purchasing an e-ticket via the Museum Card in advance, we must scan the Museum Card at the entrance. This cannot be done remotely, so please bring your card with you to the museum. Without showing Museumkaart, the regular rate applies.

I took a canal cruise with the Waterline. With this ticket I get a 50 % discount on the entrance to the Mondrian House. Within what timeframe does this discount expire?
The 50 % discount is valid until no later than one day after the Waterlijn ticket is purchased. So for example, if you buy a ticket from the Waterline on Wednesday morning at 11am, you can use it to visit the museum with a 50 % discount until no later than the following day (Thursday) until 5pm.

Which means of payment does the Mondrian House accept?
At the Mondrian House, payment can only be made by debit or credit card (Visa and MasterCard, no American Express).

Can I return my ticket(s) after purchase?
Het is helaas niet mogelijk om tickets te retourneren en het aankoopbedrag terug te krijgen.

Museum card

I have ordered my Museum Card but have not yet received it by post. Can I still visit the museum with the Museum Card holder rate?
Visitors who are in possession of a valid Museum Card but cannot - for whatever reason - show it on site are not entitled to admission. Copies or (digital) images of the Museum Card will not be accepted.

Can I purchase a Museum Card at the Mondrian House?
Yes, museum cards can be bought at the museum's front desk. You can use the card immediately. For more information and conditions about the Museum Card, please contact www.museumvereniging.nl.

Cloakroom and lockers

Kan ik gebruikmaken van de garderobe en een kluisje?
The Mondrian House has free lockers to store your belongings during your visit. There is also a cloakroom where you can hang up your coat.

Am I required to use the cloakroom and/or a locker?
Only (hand) bags are allowed into the museum. The maximum size allowed is A4. We also ask you to leave other items such as umbrellas, coats or larger bags in the cloakroom and/or locker.

Accessibility and parking

Is the Mondrian House accessible for the disabled?
The museum building has a lift to reach all floors, except for the reconstruction of Mondrian's Paris Atelier. This can be partially visited by wheelchair. The lift in the museum, and thus the upper floor, is unfortunately unsuitable for mobility scooters. One solution might be to use a Handy-Car(e) wheelchair. This can be borrowed free of charge at the museum. The Mondrian House is accessible to wheelchair users via the front with the help of a ramp. Please contact our reception: 033 46 00 170.

Where can I park near the Mondrian House?
Amersfoort's historic city centre will be car-free from 4 January 2021. You can use the car parks on the edge of the car-free area. In the vicinity of the Mondrian House, these are: Koestraat (Grote Haag 2), Beestenmarkt (Binnen de Veste 2), Centrum Mondriaan (Soeverein 36) and St. Jorisplein (Sint Jorisplein 34). From these garages, it is about a 5-10-minute walk to the museum. For more information and an overview of all car parks, see: Parking in Amersfoort.

As a supplier, I need to deliver something to the Mondrian House which is in car-free area, is this still possible?
You can. Then provide your vehicle's registration number in advance via: [email protected]. Then we will make sure the license plate is known to ParkeerService Amersfoort and you can drive on. If you come last-minute, the license plate must be registered within 15 minutes of entering the area. The registration is valid for 48 hours.

(Workshops for children

Is the museum card valid for the (children's) workshops?
All workshops, for children and for adults, are a stand-alone activity in addition to the museum visit. The museum card is therefore not valid. During the workshop, participants often visit a museum room as an introduction, but to see the entire museum, we recommend a separate visit. However, it is of course possible to visit the museum on your own before or after the workshop.

My child wants to join the children's workshop. Do we need to buy a separate entrance ticket?
No, this is not necessary. The workshops are a standalone activity in addition to the museum visit. There will be 1 or 2 museum rooms per workshop as an introduction to the theme, but for the museum, we recommend a separate visit. Is your child far from finished after the workshop? Then feel free to visit the museum again! (valid only on presentation of a workshop ticket and entrance tickets for accompanying persons).

The children's workshops are already fully booked! What's on offer for children at the museum?
Join the active scavenger hunt through the museum! Collect all the stickers and complete your own boogiewoogie. Participation in the scavenger hunt is available free of charge at the reception desk and suitable for children aged 6 to 12. Do you also feel like making a work of art? You can do so daily in our DIY workshop. We have thought up some fun tasks you can do. Each temporary exhibition has something new waiting for you. Or have fun on our famous Lego wall!

Museum shop

Can I also buy Mondrian-related (gift) items at the museum?
The Mondrian House museum shop is located on the ground floor near the entrance and can also be visited without a ticket. In the shop you will find a wide range of products, nice to give yourself or others as gifts. For example, decorative items such as clocks, sculptures and crockery. Everything to give your home a nice Mondrian touch. But there is also a wide choice of bags, scarves, socks and other fashion accessories. Or great gifts for kids, such as games, puzzles and Miffy cuddly toys.

I would like to shop and order online. Is that possible?
Het gehele assortiment is ook online verkrijgbaar. Bekijk het in de webshop.

Food and drink

Is food and drink allowed in the museum?
Consumption of drinks or food in the Mondrian House is not permitted. Refreshments are available in the Mondrian Café; these may not be taken into the exhibition rooms. Do you have a medical reason why you need to drink or eat anyway? If so, please let one of our staff know in advance.

Other

Can I also visit the Mondrian House outside opening hours, e.g. for a presentation, reception, lecture or festive reception for my company?
Yes, that is possible. The Mondrian House rents out a number of rooms outside opening hours. Upon request, can that be combined with a visit to the exhibition or a guided tour? See here our offer and conditions.

Can the museum help me determine the value of paintings or other art objects?
For the valuation of works of art, you can contact a sworn appraiser (also called a registered appraiser) . That is where the necessary professional knowledge and expertise is available to give an opinion on matters such as sales value, insurance value, etc.

What music can be heard in the cinemas?
The music in the New York room (upper floor) was composed especially for the Mondriaan House by Ivo Witteveen. The composition is called I paint Mondern (Anagram for Piet Mondrian. )More info (in English) and listen again: Music Mondrian House

The video installation in the Oeuvrezaal (ground floor) will feature the following compositions in succession:

Mondscheinsonate - Ludwig van Beethoven
Miroirs: III. Une Barque sur l'océan - Maurice Ravel
3 Pieces for String Quartet: no 2. - Igor Stravinsky
Maple Leaf Rag - Scott Joplin
Symphony no. 1: I Adagio - Jacob van Domselaer
Symphony no. 1: IV Allegro con brio - Jacob van Domselaer
Sonata for Flute, viola and harp: 2. Interlude - Claude Debussy
Blue Light (transblucency) - Original - Duke Ellington
Boogiewoogie Man Albert Ammons & Pete Johnson

Why is Mondrian often spelt as Mondrian abroad?

The difference in spelling originated when Piet Mondrian left for Paris. At the time, he himself changed his signature to Mondrian because it was easier to pronounce for Parisians. Besides, the internationalisation of his name (Piet Mondrian) is quite appropriately an anagram for 'I paint modern'. People abroad have always continued to write Mondrian, even after his death. In the Netherlands, Mondrian has remained the norm.

Can I support the Mondrian House?

Yes, please! Friends are indispensable to the Mondrian House. Through Friends, we can realise more plans and improve and expand the offer for visitors. As a Friend, you also have an edge and get fun extras! You can choose from three levels: Red, Yellow and Blue.
