The Mondrian House, museum in Amersfoort, is the birthplace of Piet Mondrian.

The Mondrian House in Amersfoort is the birthplace of Piet Mondrian (1872-1944). At the time, the building was used as a primary school where little Piet's father was head teacher. The Mondrian family lived on the upper floor. Piet spent his first eight years of life there.

After the Mondrian family's departure, nothing on this site reminded of the world-famous painter for a long time, until architect Leo Heijdenrijk and his wife Cis turned it into the Mondrian House in 1994 and opened it to the public as a museum. Visitors there now travel through Mondrian's life. Here you can discover how his work gradually changed from realistic landscapes to abstract compositions with the characteristic lines and planes. Immerse yourself in his dynamic life and travel with him from Amersfoort to Winterswijk, from Amsterdam via Paris to London and finally to New York. In video installations, the artistic development of the founder of abstract painting passes you by. Also special is the scale-reproduced studio where Piet Mondrian worked and lived during his Paris period.

In addition, the Mondrian House hosts changing exhibitions. A visit ends in the DIY studio, the workshop where anyone inspired by Mondrian may create their own work of art.
