Always wanted to know more about art? Then KLU's 'Introduction to Art History' course at the Mondrian House is for you! The course starts on Monday 24 February and consists of eight lessons.
Always wanted to know how Gothic architecture differs from Romanesque? Why the Night Watch is so famous and why Michelangelo il divino, or called the divine? What is special about the works of Van Gogh and how do you recognise the Flemish Primitives? If you know just a little bit more about art history, you will already look at well-known works of art with completely different eyes and enjoy visiting museums or that one church you walk into on holiday more.
This course is designed for 'starters' in art history. In eight lessons, you will be led through the entire history of Western art in chronological order. We start with classical antiquity and end with modern art. Painting, sculpture and architecture are all covered. After this course, you will know the main styles and periods, have a good basic knowledge of art history and have learned to see art in its context of time and place.
Lecturer is an art historian Muriel de Beer. She runs courses, lectures, tours and walks for various clients. Everything is put together with the utmost dedication and presented with flair. Pleasure in experiencing art, quality of content and clear explanations are top priorities for Muriel.
