During children's book week, on Sunday 8 October, artist Miek Hoekzema presents 'The dog of Does', a visual listening story for young and old, at the Mondriaan House.
The dog of Does is a visual listening story for children and their (grand)parents. The story passes by the characters of the old-fashioned reading board and asks them about Does' dog. Meanwhile, connections are made to the work of Stijl artist Theo van Doesburg through sayings and expressions.
Through the reading board, children used to learn to read. This board was introduced roughly a century ago, also in the early days of the De Stijl art movement. Both use a completely different visual language, but through Hoekzema's The dog of Does yet connected and engage with each other, so to speak.
