Book launch. While searching for the story behind his grandmother's portrait, writer Nick Draaijer discovered two as yet unknown child portraits by Mondriaan. He will talk about this discovery and his recently published book in the Mondrian House on Saturday 30 April.
Writer Nick Draaijer had been captivated by the beautiful portrait of his great-great-grandmother above his grandparents' sofa since childhood. That portrait had been painted by none other than Piet Mondrian. In 2018, the writer set out to find the story behind this canvas.
The result is an extraordinary family history told against the backdrop of the booming art world of twentieth-century Amsterdam. A whirlwind tale of a slowly splintering family and old secrets coming to light.
On Saturday 9 April at the Mondrian House, Nick Draaijer will talk about his family's history and his great-great-grandfather's special connection with Piet Mondrian.
