Get to know the oeuvre of Piet Mondrian in three painting workshops, each covering a period of his life. Can also be visited separately.
NB: All workshops in spring 2019 are now fully booked.
By popular demand, the Mondrian House is again organising a series of workshops especially for adults in 2019. During Amsterdam-Paris-New York participants will learn about Piet Mondrian's work in his Amsterdam, Paris and New York periods. Afterwards, you will paint yourself. Because the best way to understand Mondrian is to try it yourself.
While the three workshops in February-March 2019 form a whole, they are also great to do separately. After all, each workshop focuses on a different period of Mondrian's oeuvre.
Friday, February 8: Amsterdam (FULL BOOKED)
In his early years, Piet Mondrian worked figuratively, painting landscapes, among other things. Some of these works can be seen in the Treasure Room (room 2) of the Mondrian House. Why did Mondrian make these landscapes and how exactly did he go about it? By looking attentively at his paintings, participants will learn to create their own landscape step by step.
Friday, February 22: Paris (FULL BOOKED)
This time, we focus on Piet Mondrian's remarkable stylistic development in Paris. In the French capital, Mondrian was introduced to the work of great artists such as Picasso and Braque and eventually arrived at his own abstract painting style. In this workshop, participants will follow in Mondrian's footsteps and create an abstracted painting.
Friday, March 8: New York (FULL BOOKED)
Some of Mondrian's most iconic works only came about in the last phase of his life, when he stayed in New York. It was there that his abstract art came to fruition. In total, Piet Mondrian spent about 25 years of his life creating abstract art. What exactly did he want to achieve with this? And how did he set up his compositions? Inspired by his last work, the Victory Boogie Woogie, participants will play with composition and create an abstract artwork.
