The Mondrian House organises 'Building flowers - watercolour painting with Mondrian', a workshop for adults, on 20 May.
This workshop is run exclusively for the Mondrian House by Monica de Ruiter given. Starting point is her book Look like an artist where a chapter is dedicated to Piet Mondrian's watercolour flowers. She will first introduce participants to his flower art. Why and when did he make them and how did he do it? Afterwards, workshop participants will get to work themselves. You will make your own flower, step by step, with charcoal and watercolour paint. Exactly like Mondrian did, using a real flower as a model. At the end, we take home our own little gem.
This workshop ties in well with theme year Mondrian 150: Festival of imagination, taking inspiration from Mondrian. In this case, Piet Mondrian's watercolours of flowers, such as the famous amaryllis, serve as examples. For Mondrian did not only create his abstract works, he also painted beautiful flowers. Little underexposed gems, he did with watercolours.
