How to become an art historian?

When is a work of art actually made? And how can you tell? In three lectures of the Museum Youth University, you will search for the answer together with art expert Jolinda de Lang. Learn to look, compare and research like a true art historian.

Especially for curious children, the Museum Youth University organises a series of lectures in Amersfoort museums. In it, experts answer the funniest, craziest and most exciting questions. Such as: Do you ever wonder when a work of art was actually made? And how can you tell?

In a series of three lectures led by art expert Jolinda de Lang, participants will search for answers. And learn to work like an art historian by doing. The full programme is as follows:

11 February 2018: How does an art historian look at art?
Location: Museum Flehite. Time: 13:00
Art expert Jolinda de Lang looks at art with thousands of people every year. She knows exactly which questions to ask. By watching, comparing and researching, you will learn what to look for and take your first steps as an art historian. The students study Flehite Museum's collection on the floor.

4 March 2018: How does an art historian look at Mondrian?
Location: Mondrian House. Time: 13:00
Piet Mondrian is a famous painter. What can you find out about him if you look at his work with an art-historical eye? Jolinda de Lang takes you past the works of art in the Mondrian House. Together with her, you will discover stories about Piet Mondrian.

8 April 2018: How does an art historian look at contemporary art?
Location: Kunsthal KAdE. Time: 13:00
Does an art historian see differences between art made in the last century and art made today? And how does an art historian look at art made today? At Kunsthal KAdE, you will get to look at contemporary art like a real art historian.
