Making music with QR codes? You can do that every third Sunday of the month at JAZZLAB 4 KIDS!
You probably know the black-and-white chequered pictures you can scan with your phone. With these pictures we will make music in a very special way in the JAZZLAB 4 KIDS workshop in the Mondriaan House. Led by Maurits Boreel and Miriam Veeger, each child will be allowed to record their own music fragment. This can be a sound or melody with your own voice or with one of the instruments brought along by the workshop teachers. Your own composition will be linked to a QR code. When you show this code to the camera, you will hear your own fragment. Want to know how we turn all those fragments into swinging Jazz? Then come to the workshop!
Abstracting music into individual sounds or melody lines and then reassembling it into new swinging jazz obviously suits Mondrian perfectly. He was a master of abstraction as well as a great lover of jazz.
Workshop teacher Maurits Boreel is a jazz violinist, composer and music inventor! He is associated with Het VioolLab in Amersfoort. Miriam Veeger is a violinist, workshop inventor and creative brain/founder of Het VioolLab.
