Piet Mondrian loved music. Want to know more about it? On Friday 25 March, from 2pm, publicist and Mondrian expert Louis Veen will tell all about it.
Mondrian loved music and was fond of dancing. He put on jazz music to paint to and foxtrot records to dance to. He danced in his studio, alone or with a friend, but often - if finances allowed - he also went to dance venues.
He also had ideas about applying the principles of his neoplastic painting to music. He wrote several articles on this 'new music'.
The lecture Mondrian and music covers Mondrian's thought processes, neoplastic music, bruiteurs futuristes italiens, jazz, his record collection and boogiewoogie. The lecture will be accompanied by images and sound.
Louis Veen (1947) received his doctorate in 2011 for The Written Works of Piet Mondrian. The trade edition of his thesis was published under the title: Piet Mondrian. The Complete Writings. Essays and notes in original versions. He also published Piet Mondrian - Writing about Art and Piet Mondrian - Painting and Writing in Laren and Blaricum.
