Lecture series: The art of storytelling

MuseumJeugdUniversiteit organises a lecture series at Museum Flehite, Kunsthal KAdE and the Mondriaanhuis. With the theme 'the art of stories'.

Know more than your master or teacher! MuseumJeugdUniversiteit (MJU) organises children's lectures with more than 50 museums in the Netherlands. The upcoming lecture series jointly organised by Museum Flehite, Kunsthal KAdE and the Mondriaanhuis focuses on: 'the art of stories'. Register now and get your MJU diploma!

Stories are all around us and every story is different. During three different lectures, you will look through the eyes of a philosopher, storyteller and poet and discover stories in art. By watching closely, philosophising and learning how to make poems, you will become a bit of a storytelling expert yourself.

How do you know if a story is true?
Location: Mondrian House
Type: lecture
Date: 16 February 2020, 13:00
Sometimes you read an article and ask yourself: Is that story true? How do you know what is true or not? There are extraordinary stories in Piet Mondrian's paintings. But are they true? Or is the truth much more fun? Philosophers have thought long and hard about what is truth. Together with philosopher Esther Didden, you will go on a quest for truth during this interactive lecture.

What stories can be discovered in black art?
Location: Kunsthal KAdE
Type: tutorial
Date: 19 April 2020, 13:00
The exhibition Tell Me Your Story on show at Kunsthal KAdE from February is about storytelling by black American artists. You will see paintings, drawings and photographs from the beginning of the last century to the present. Storytelling is one of the hallmarks of black culture. Why is it so? Where does that come from? What are these stories about? How can you make a painting tell a story? Do you think Dutch artists can do the same? Suppose you had to tell a story yourself, which story would it be? Together with storyteller Rob Perrée, you will search for answers to these questions!
