What do Monteverdi and Mondrian have to do with each other? Lecture by opera dramatist Willem Bruls at the Mondriaan House.
Apart from their first three letters, what is the similarity between Mondrian and Monteverdi? At first glance, perhaps little because the gentlemen lived in a different time, in a different place and practised different artistic disciplines. Yet parallels can indeed be found. After all, both Monteverdi and Mondrian are great innovators in their own time and genre, and both set new art movements in motion.
As part of the Monteverdi XL festival, the Mondriaan House is hosting opera dramatist Willem Bruls. He will give a short lecture (25 min.) on the life, work and ideas of these extraordinary artists. The lecture will end with a performance by young musicians with music by Monteverdi.
