In 2023, DierenPark Amersfoort will celebrate its 75th anniversary. To mark this festive anniversary, three museums in Amersfoort will join in with an exhibition focusing on animals. The Mondriaanhuis will kick off with the exhibition Birds and Fish - The art of omission.
For the exhibition, the Mondrian House, birthplace of Piet Mondrian, selected contemporary artists and designers who searched for the essence of their subject through abstraction.
Mondrian went so far in his artistic development that a painting eventually referred to nothing but himself. The selected artists of Birds & Fish have taken a different path. Their work refers to reality. They explored how far you can go with abstraction, without losing the recognisability of the subject. They pay tribute to nature with the selected works.
Blocbirds
From 10 March 2023, the Mondrian House will show Blocbirds by Paul & Albert (formerly known as Studio 212 Fahrenheit), a duo that moves at the intersection of art and design. Blocbirds is an award-winning series in which 25 birds have been reduced to abstract graphic compositions. The fascinating thing is that in this graphic appearance, the birds can still be recognised. The Mondrian House also selected works by Albert van Loon. The Zeist-based artist investigated for a time under the title Go with the flow the essence of a school of fish. Hélène Min used the real skin of fish for her abstract sculptures. In processing the wet fish skins, she experiences direct contact with the element in which the fish live, the vast seas, as the sky above carries the birds in perfect balance.
