Making music with the colours of De Stijl? You can do so every third Sunday of the month at JazzLab in Style!
The artists of the De Stijl art movement worked with the primary colours red, yellow and blue. We will use these colours to make music in a very special way in the workshop JazzLab in Style at the Mondrian House. Led by teacher Miriam Veeger, each child gets to record their own music fragment. This can be a sound or melody with your own voice or with one of the instruments brought along by the workshop teachers. Your own composition will be linked to a colour. When you show this colour to the camera, you will hear your own fragment. Want to know how we turn all those fragments into swinging Jazz? Then come to the workshop!
Abstracting music into individual sounds or melody lines and then reassembling it into new swinging jazz is, of course, also a perfect match for stylist Piet Mondrian. He was a master of abstraction as well as a great lover of jazz.
