Guest tour Charlotte Rixten at Mondrian House

Due to the Mondrian House's 25th anniversary, Charlotte Rixten will give a guided tour of the exhibition at the museum in Amersfoort at 1.30pm. Rixten became the youngest museum director in the Netherlands at the beginning of this year as a 25-year-old.

In doing so, she will of course discuss Mondrian's period in Winterswijk, where the young Piet lived from the age of eight to 20.

Rixten studied at the University of Groningen. There she obtained two bachelors degrees. She also obtained cum laude her research master's degree in Collections and Curating Practices at the University of Edinburgh. Here, she was involved in organising a number of exhibitions, including a pop-up exhibition around creative therapy for people with dementia.

While studying in Groningen, she worked at the University Museum Groningen and did an internship as assistant curator at Museum De Buitenplaats in Eelde. She also did an internship at the cultural department of the Dutch embassy in Canberra, Australia, at the end of her studies.

Since the beginning of this year, Rixten has led Villa Mondrian in Winterswijk, making it the Netherlands' youngest museum director. Villa Mondrian opened in 2013 and has a particular focus on Piet Mondrian's early work, some of which originated in Winterswijk and the surrounding area. The museum is housed in the former home of the Mondrian family, who lived here from 1880 to 1892. It also focuses on work by young and promising followers of Mondrian in ever-changing exhibitions.

The tour on Friday 11 October at 1.30pm is free with museum admission. Please register via [email protected]
