Find out more about Piet Mondrian on a canal cruise through the picturesque canals of his hometown Amersfoort. You will also visit the Mondrian House.

Sail through the picturesque canals of Amersfoort and in the meantime learn something about the Keistad's most famous resident: Piet Mondrian. During the special themed cruise Mondrian recounts the narrator of the Waterline about the history of Amersfoort, with a special focus on the painter who was born on Kortegracht in 1872. Part of the tour includes a visit to the Mondrian House, including a guided tour.

Practical information

Sailing times: The cruise is always on Saturday mornings, on 11 and 25 May, 8 and 22 June, 6 and 20 July, 3, 17 and 31 August, 28 September, 12 and 26 October. Departure is always at 11am from the Waterline's jetty on Krommestraat.

On Kortegracht in Amersfoort, there is an unusual water spout (see photo below). In it, we see a still very young Piet Mondrian. Looking over the edge of the pram, he is surprised to see that the vehicle has square wheels. According to Amersfoort sculptor Ton Mooy, this may well have been the impetus for the shapes Mondrian was to use in his later work....
