Wednesday 7 March 2018 marks the 146th anniversary of Piet Mondrian's birth. The Mondrian House, birthplace of the painter, is therefore organising a 'Mondrian Day' with various public activities. Free admission also applies from 7 to 11 March on presentation of the article on Mondriaandag from door-to-door newspaper Amersfoort Nu or the voucher from the AD of 6 March.
The following actions and activities will take place on Wednesday, 7 March 2018:
All day and until 11 March, residents of Amersfoort and the surrounding area can visit the museum for free on presentation of the article on Mondriaandag in the Amersfoort Nu, Leusden Nu, Nijkerk Nu and Soest Nu of 28 February or the voucher from the AD/Amersfoortse Courant of 6 March 2018.
All visitors who come on Wednesday will also be offered a cake at the Mondrian Café.
Free Mondrian walk
In cooperation with Gilde Amersfoort, two free Mondrian walks will take place on Wednesdays at 10.30 and 13.00. During a tour of the city centre, a guide will outline, through photos and stories, what life in Amersfoort was like in Mondrian's youth.
The walk from the Guild starts at the Observant at Stadhuisplein 7 and ends at the Mondrian House. Pre-registration is not necessary.
Award ceremony
At 4pm is the awards ceremony of the painting competition 'Inspired by Mondrian'. All participants who have been nominated have now received an invitation to do so. Participants who unfortunately not have been awarded prizes will be notified today or tomorrow (7 March 2018) about how to collect their work.
Both adults and children can participate in this public contest. Over a hundred participants have already picked up a competition form. Their paintings will be temporarily exhibited in the museum's DIY studio. The winners will receive prizes made available by the following Mooierplein entrepreneurs on 7 March:
