Saturday 7 March marks the 148th anniversary of Piet Mondrian's birth in Amersfoort. Every year, the Mondrian House - birthplace of the painter - celebrates the birthday of the pioneer of abstract art.
Again this year, there are activities and actions to commemorate Mondrian.
Painting competition award ceremony
On Saturday 7 March, the festive award ceremony of the painting competition will take place Inspired by Mondrian. Over 100 enthusiastic amateur painters of all ages from all over the Netherlands and even from Germany participated in this competition for young and old. On Saturday afternoon, the jury will announce the winners in three categories. The work of all participants will be on display in the Mondrian House's DIY studio throughout March.
Pack Art
In honour of Mondrian's birthday, the Mondrian House will have an Art Vending Machine from national organisation Pakje Kunst (Pack of Art) at its disposal throughout March. From an old cigarette machine, visitors to the Mondrian House can draw a work of art the size of a packet of cigarettes for €4. What comes out is a surprise every time. Work for the vending machine in Amersfoort was also supplied by several artists from the region.
Free entry for namesakes
On Saturday 7 March, the Mondrian House is free to visit for all namesakes of Piet Mondrian. Do you happen to be called Pieter, Cornelis (or a derivative thereof) or have Mondrian as your surname? Then you can enter for free on 7 March.
