For the second time, the Mondrian House in Amersfoort is organising the painting competition 'Inspired by Mondrian'. From Friday 3 January, anyone who loves painting can pick up a competition form and a (free) 25 x 25 cm painting canvas at the Mondrian House and get to work themselves.
The award ceremony will be on Saturday 7 March 2020, the 148th anniversary of Piet Mondrian's birth. The mission of the painting competition is: be inspired by Mondrian.
During his artistic career, Piet Mondrian painted various subjects in a variety of styles, from figurative landscapes, flowers and portraits to the well-known abstract compositions with primary colours. Participants in the Mondrian Contest can decide which style or aspect of Mondrian they feel inspired by and bring it out in their own creation.
From 3 January to 24 February, a free painting canvas (while stocks last) and competition form can be picked up at the Mondrian House reception desk. It is also possible to purchase your own canvas, provided the size is 25 x 25 centimetres. Participants can submit their work to the Mondrian House until Friday 28 February 2020. All entries will be temporarily exhibited in the museum's DIY studio.
Award ceremony
After the closing date (28 February), each participant will be notified by e-mail about how to proceed. An expert jury will select the winners, who will be announced on Saturday afternoon, 7 March. The painting competition is for both adults and youths aged 4 to 11 and 12 to 18. Two winners will be selected in all three categories (1e and 2e price). The 1e adult price is overnight stay plus breakfast at Bed and Breakfast with Hein for up to 4 people in downtown Amersfoort.

About the Mondriaanhuis
The Mondrian House is the birthplace of Piet Mondrian. The pioneer of abstract art was born here on 7 March 1872, the son of a head teacher. Since 1994, the Mondrian family's old home/annex school has housed a museum. In 2017, the Mondrian House underwent a redesign that won several international awards. The Mondrian House receives around 35,000 visitors from home and abroad every year and organises a diverse range of educational activities that reach a wide audience.
The painting competition 'Inspired by Mondrian' is organised every two years. In 2018, the competition took place for the first time and there were more than 100 entries from all over the country.
