10 and 11 September 2022 is Open Monument Day. The Mondrian House, birthplace of Piet Mondrian, also participates on the Saturday. On 10 September, admission to the museum is free, including live music. On Sunday the 11th, the regular rate applies.
On Saturday 10 September and Sunday 11 September 2022, you can enjoy many monuments in Amersfoort opening their doors to the public from 10am to 5pm. The Mondrian House is participating again this year on Saturday 10 September. The building we now know as a museum was once built as a primary school, where Piet Mondrian Sr's father was head teacher and young Piet came into the world 150 years ago in the upstairs living area.
Live music on the terrace
On the terrace at the rear (Mooierplein) of the Mondrian House, Open Monument Day on Saturday 10 September will be extra festive with live music. The Silver Crickets is an acoustic duo consisting of Boudewijn van Wijk (guitar-vocals) and John Hijmering (guitar-vocals). Both are members of the Leusden cover band Brand New Cadillac (rock & roll, rock and ballads) who have been active for 32 years, performing throughout the country, including supporting the Golden Earring in 2006. The repertoire consists of songs from the 60s, 70s, 80s and also Dutch-language songs (including The Scene).
On view at the Mondrian House
In addition to its monumental character, you can also enjoy the Mondrian House's permanent exhibition The world of Piet Mondrian. Furthermore, during Heritage Day you can also visit the temporary exhibition Unlimited visit.
During Open Heritage Day 2022 thousands of monuments across the Netherlands open their doors to the public free of charge. Open Monumentendag is organised by Holland Monumentland in cooperation with local committees throughout the country. With this event, they jointly aim to raise awareness of monuments by making this special Dutch cultural heritage accessible and thus preserving it for a wide audience. This year's theme is Sustainability.
