'Bep, daughter of Rietveld' is a lively theatre performance that unravels the secrets of the Rietveld family.
On Saturday 20 May, Theatre De Lieve Vrouw in Amersfoort, in collaboration with the Mondriaanhuis and Kunsthal KAdE, will present the performance 'Bep, daughter of Rietveld', including an introduction and post-screening discussion.
This performance is an intriguing solo by Utrecht actress and singer Audrey Bolder in which she explores how legitimate it is to make sacrifices to achieve your goal. In doing so, Elisabeth Eskes-Rietveld (Bep) - painter and eldest daughter of architect and furniture designer Gerrit Rietveld - serves as inspiration.
Through Bep's eyes, we see her father embraced by art group De Stijl; the motley procession of characters that passes by also turns out to be very influential in Bep's life. For Audrey, the question arises at the expense of whom or what you are allowed to be an artist.
