In this painting workshop for adults at the Mondrian House, participants will be introduced to the art of omission and paint their own abstract bird.
At the Mondrian House, you can now visit the exhibition Birds & Fish - The art of omission. The museum made a selection of contemporary artists and designers who searched for the essence of their subject through abstraction. Like the duo Paul & Albert, who with Blocbirds created a series of 25 birds reduced to abstract graphic compositions.
After a tour of the exhibition and an explanation of what exactly abstract art is. There are stuffed birds, but you can also use your own image or photo of a bird as a starting point. We start by looking closely. What shapes and colours do you see in your bird? Is there anything that stands out? For example, a bright crest or a very long beak.
Then grab acrylic paint and brush and paint your own abstracted bird on canvas.
