The Mondrian House is celebrating its 25th anniversary! To mark this anniversary, 25 members of national artist association De Ploegh have been invited to create a work measuring 25 x 25 centimetres especially for this exhibition.
For this commission, the artists studied and drew inspiration from Piet Mondrian. Mondrian went through a great artistic development during his career: from realistic landscapes, to luministic scenes to total abstraction. Each artist was free to choose which period or style, or which of Mondrian's ideas, they wanted to be inspired by. It led to fascinating perspectives and a rich variety of works.
Twenty-three members of de Ploegh are participating in the exhibition. In addition, two up-and-coming talents have been invited to create a work. Participants are:

Twenty-five years of the Mondrian House
The Mondrian House is the birthplace of Piet Mondrian. The pioneer of abstract art was born here in 1872, the son of a head teacher. After the Mondrian family left for Winterswijk in 1880, the building went through a variety of uses and owners. In 1902, for example, manufacturer Hubers bought the building and set up a cigar and tobacco factory. From 1939 to 1955, Kortegracht 11 housed printer S.D. Zwart. Since 1994, this historic site has housed the Mondrian House as a museum. It was architect Leo Heijdenrijk and his wife Cis Heijdenrijk who took the initiative to renovate the then dilapidated building and establish the Mondrian House. In 2017, the museum underwent a redesign that won several international awards.
