In 2022, it will be 150 years since Piet Mondrian was born in Amersfoort. The Mondrian House will celebrate Mondrian's 150th birth anniversary with a 'Festival of Imagination'.
There are not many artists who reinvented themselves as often as Mondrian. Until the end of his life, he kept renewing himself.
The Mondrian House will honour Piet Mondrian in 2022 with an event focusing on the artist's drive for innovation and imagination. Under the title 'Feast of Imagination', everyone is invited to participate in an innovative, inspiring and inclusive programme.

Programme newspaper
A special Mondrian 150 Programme Newspaper will be published twice in 2022. In it, you can read all about the Festival of Imagination, with an overview and background info on exhibitions, stage productions, festivals, lectures, workshops, outdoor activities and much more. In Amersfoort, the programme newspaper was distributed door-to-door as a supplement of De Stad Amersfoort. In addition, the newspaper can be read digitally as a pdf. View the autumn 2022 edition:

Exhibitions
The Mondrian House itself organises three special exhibitions and an education programme for schools. The first exhibition is called Guts! and shows new work by five up-and-coming talents until 19 June.
The second exhibition, in summer 2022 is especially for families with children and is titled Looking to the future.
For the third exhibition, titled Unlimited the Mondrian House pairs seven contemporary visual artists with seven composers, who will create new work together.
Kunsthal KAdE and Museum Flehite will also pay attention to Mondrian next year.
Kunsthal KAdE it Abrasive paradise as the starting point for an exhibition, in response to the 'earthly paradise' Mondrian aspired to. on view until 14 August 2022.
Museum Flehite puts the young Mondrian central with an exhibition of the artist's early work from private collections.
Cultural programme
Cultural institutions in Amersfoort, both amateur associations and professional organisations, have been invited to programme performances or develop new productions inspired by Mondrian especially to mark the 150th anniversary. Among others, five new productions are in development and will premiere in September:
- The art of lines: dance project
- Boogiewoogie me: musical programme
- Letters to Mondrian: song cycle by Holland Opera
- New world: musical theatre
- Terrace of imagination: mini-festival including concerts Fluor & city terrace
Social programme
In the Mondrian Year, the Mondrian House has taken the initiative, together with The Turn Club and TwynstraGudde, to ask artists to address pressing social issues. Over 150 days, theatre-maker Bright Richards and composer/conductor Imre Ploeg will work on the themes of 'newcomers' and 'nature'. Merlijn Twaalfhoven, composer and founder of The Turn Club will consider how to narrow the gap between citizens and government.
